I start TCHP chemotherapy on Wednesday I have a call with chemotherapy nurse on Monday.
I know the Docetaxel will cause hair loss, not the Carboplatin…I think I am having the Herceptin and Pertazumab via sub cut injection so assume that will cut the time dramatically as they give that over 8 mins 1st time then 5 mins.
I am anxious to try and keep my hair but don’t know the pros and cons of the cold cap can anyone help?
Thank you x
Firstly, I had the Docetaxel as part of my 4th 5th and 6th chemo treatments, I found this chemo the most painful in my legs, hips and back. I obtained Nuproxen 5/6 and I started this a day or two before my dose of Docetaxel. My nurse suggested a hot water bottle and paracetomol were my friend, but omg I found the discomfort wall climbing to say the least. For all six of my chemo treatments I did suffer the cold cap but it was worth it for me. The silver lining for me was the Doxetaxel did not require the cold cap to stay on as long as my first three chemo treatments. The cold cap can be uncomfortable. however, I had young children and wanted to keep some hair so as not to scare them. It did work, as long as the cap is fitted tightly to your head. Hope this helps.
