I was first diagnosed with DCIS in September. Had my first WLE operation at the beginning of November. When I went back for test results was told they hadn't removed all the cells so had a second op at the beginning of December. Thought that this was going to be my last op only to find out they hadn't removed the cells. Was gutted with this news as it's taken over 6 weeks to recover from the 2nd op. I'm having my third op this coming Monday. Has anyone else had more than one operation for DCIS? I don't think I can go through anymore surgeries after this third one. I'm praying that the surgery I'm having on Monday will be my last one. If they can't remove the cells this time, I just don't think they will. Feeling nervous and anxious.
Hi you,
Nearly the exact same story. I found a lump, which when removed and analysed was Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. It was sent off for onco testing and came back with a low score of 10.
But after that first surgery was when I was told that they had found pre cancerous cells (DCIS) So I had to have another procedure to remove them.
Went back for the results to be told that they weren't happy with the margins......I was devastated and couldn't believe it. My consultant advised that I have a mastectomy, which has always been a fear of mine. I had a consultation with another consultant about a mastectomy, and she advised me to have another shave done, as she felt that it was worth another shot.
And I'm so glad I took her advice. After surgery 3 I was given the brilliant news that they were happy with my margins, and I could proceed with my radiotherapy
I had surgey for dcis end of December , went back last week and told didn’t get enough and more wide spread that’s first thought and also found some invasive cancer, now having to have mastectomy with lymph node removal , wound only just healed from the first time . I think any surgery is a anxious time but trust they make the thigh decisons
Same situation here-it's so disappointing I dont know how they are going to find the cells and now its radiotherapy too having been told non needed at Op 2
Op 3 on Friday but feeling unsure
How did your Op 3 go? Did they find the cells....
Hi, my third op was successful in removing the cells, this was in January. Then in May I had 10 days of radiotherapy. I had a mammogram 3 weeks ago and the results came back clear/normal appearance. So thankfully I do not need to have another mammogram until September 2023. Radiotherapy wasn't too bad, I did feel tired but that was more because having to go every day and working at the same time. I did have a lot of discomfort/redness after treatment finished. I still have a bit of discomfort in the area if I sleep on my right side. I hope everything goes well with your op.
