Don't be scared it will be ok just finished mine . Sickness very well controlled now take tables as prescribed. Fatigue was the worst for me I was so tired lasts about 3-6 days. Hair loss is ok it's to be expected , you could try the cold cap. I found no difference to how I felt having chemo fatigue started about day 3 for me. Take care X

  • Hi Maza

I am about a year ahead of you. Finished chemo last March and still go very three weeks to get maintenence doses of Herceptin and pertuzumab. I was terrified before hand  too.

The nurses and all the staff at the chemo suites are so experienced in looking after people like us, you can rest assured that you will be well taken care of. They will guide you through and explain everything that they are doing and also what to expect afterwards. You will get a pack of support meds to help you over the side effects and there is also a helpline from your local chemo centre and a 24hr national one that you are encouraged to phone at any time with questions or if you feel that you need more help.

The teams' aim to keep us all as side effect free as possible, so keep a diary of what you feel each day after chemo and this will help them to tweak your support meds for the next time, if need be.

Take something to read, a small snack and a bottle of water. It is also good to have something like a big scarf or wrap to put on /off. It can feel very warm when you arrive, but I found after sitting for a while I got quite cool.

It is also useful to have a thermometer with which to take your temperature at home. If you call the helplines their first question is often what is your temp. Also have some paracetamol and some loperamide (anti runny tummy) to hand. You might not need them, but best to be prepared just in case.

You will get through this and you will find lots of help and support to answer any questions on this forum.

    Wishing you all the best
