Hi, I'm on session 5 of chemo, they changed my drugs this time and as well as diarrhoea I'm now being sick and can't keep anything down or in! My husband is worried as I my mouth feels like a sewer and I haven't eaten for 3 days now apart from toast and banana which came back up. I really don't want to take more medication for sickness as well as diahorrea but is that the only option? Advice, help, suggestions please. I've tried the BRAT diet, didn't help this time.
Hi Jeanne
Sorry to hear that you are feeling so crap. I think unfortunately that you will likely need to take meds for sickness. Especially if you cannot keep anything down. It is very important that you are keeping enough liquids down to stay hydrated. When I was having chemo, I was told to contact the helpline if I had symptoms like those you describe.
It is worth considering. They are available 24/7, and are there to help.
Hope you feel better soon.
All the best

I would call the cancer line, it's really hard to stop vomiting once you start on chemo. I had to go to hospital and get an IV of anti-sickness. You're in danger of dehydration etc and your body needs nutrition and hydration just now.
I vomited for my first cycle and in subsequent cycles they gave my stronger anti-sickness tables to take on top of everything else which solved vomiting for me.
Hey Jeanne
I would defo contact the chemo line, it’s so important that the symptoms are controlled, you may well need some fluids for hydration and they can look at more suitable meds.
when did you have the chemo? Could it have coincided with a sickness bug?
defo phone for some advice though. Hope you feel better soon xx
Thanks for your help and advice. I contacted the help line who told me to contact my chemo hospital unit which I did and they advised contacting my doctor which I also did but they did say to let my oncologist nurse know when we speak how hard I'm finding these new meds, I will definitely do that.. Doctor said to take imodium and anti sickness pills but if they don't work to get back in touch with her and she'll prescribe another kind. I had a cup of soup (chicken) tonight for tea with dry toast and that's stayed down (yay) though I'm not able to give my teeth a good clean as leaning over the sink doesn't help. However, hopefully these med's will work and I won't have to try anything more drastic.
Thanks so much for your help. Much appreciated. Tomorrow is another day, here's hoping!
