Covid booster vaccine?

Hello,

I´ve had my third Covid19 vaccine (after talking to my oncologist who said it was a good idea to have it) - the booster- scheduled for tomorrow, just one day before chemo.

I´m a little worried in case I have a bad reaction afterwards which then effects me having chemo.

Has anyone else had it in the week or days before chemo infusions? If so, how did it go?

Thanks,

Doria.

  • I had both my second and third doses while getting chemo. The second dose was given the day before a chemo session and was completely uneventful, the third one gave me a bit of soreness in the arm for a day or so, but that was it. Chemo was not affected.

I'd say that if you had no bad reaction to your first and second doses then the chances are good you should be fine with the third.

  • Thank you for replying GreyCats.

I went for my vaccine as scheduled and asked prior to having the jab if it would be OK given that I´m having chemo tomorrow and the staff there immediately said "No!"

I´m having A/C every 2 weeks so they´ve rescheduled my vaccine for a week after my next chemo tomorrow and a week before the following one, so bang in the middle to allow for side effects/issues.

I didn´t have a bad reaction for the first and second doses so Fingers crossed

  • Well, I checked at the time with my oncologist, and set my covid vaccine date according to his advice.

Is this going to be your first AC chemo treatment?

  • My oncologist just put me on the vaccine list and then a different dept schedules it hence the mix up, I guess. It would be more useful if they communicated better! I did check with the on call oncologist by phone the other day that having it so close to treatment would be OK and he said it´d be fine. Hmmmm Rolling eyes

No, tomorrow will be my second A/C treatment.

  • I don't think vaccine affects the chemo but the chemo and support meds can damp down response to the vaccine. That is what happened to me with First and second doses.

  • It would be more useful if they communicated better!

    Absolutely!

Thanks for answering my questions, and I hope things go very well for you from now on.
