Hello all. I am having very painful neuropathy in my hand, the one used for all but one chemo infusion. I just wondered if this is very common, how long does it last and what, if anything can be done? I am four and a half months post FEC chemo and am otherwise doing great. Many thanks.
I'd take this up with the medical teams, as management of the same condition in different patients may not be the same. I have a very mild case of perhipheral neuropathy but trying to query certain aspects of it resulted in conflicting data from two experts on my oncology team. One question I had was exactly what you are asking -- how long does it last -- and the conflicting answers were, "it is permanent" and "it will improve over time." My own conclusion was that this was a little out of their field, and I figured at the time that if needed I could ask for a referral to neurology.
Good to hear that otherwise you are doing great!
Hi greycats thank you so much for your reply. The NHS site suggests that it is at its worst three to five months after chemo which puts me in exactly that time frame, so hopefully it will start to improve soon. If not, I think your idea of referral is excellent.
