I had my lab results appointment yesterday following a lumpectomy to remove 3cm of high grade DCIS. The margins were clear but showed 2mm of IDC I have to go back in for a sentinel node biopsy on 6th January. This is a whole new level of adapting and I am struggling a bit.
I would try not to worry too much, 2mm is very small. Invasive just means it is no longer in the milk duct so it only means it is in breast tissue. IDC is by far and away the most common type of BC.
Mine was IDC and almost 4cm and I had nothing in my lymph nodes.
Sorry you are having a 2nd operation. My lymph node scar healed really quickly, though my arm took a long time to get full mobility even with the exercises. Not sure if that was the lumpectomy or lymph node incision, or both!
Thank you so much for responding. This has made me feel so much better. I will try and put it out of my mind for the next few weeks now. Wishing you all the best xxxx
Hi , sorry the results were not what you were hoping for but I agree with Beatthebreast that there are positive things to focus on. It’s horrible to have breast cancer but in the bigger scheme of things it’s always good to catch it early. If the DCIS hadn’t been found and excised, the IDC would very likely have been a lot bigger when it was eventually found. Think yours is the smallest category (under 1cm) which is definitely good!
The whole cancer treatment process can feel like you’re on quicksand, as things do sometimes change and you feel like you’ve just adapted to one scenario, then you’re faced with another. It stinks but you’ll get lots of support here through the different stages.
Keep posting, let us know how you’re getting on. Great place here to share, rant and rave, or even have a laugh! Sending love and a big virtual hug your way, HFxx
Thank you so much. I am getting my head round it a bit now. It’s such a rollercoaster. Being able to share with others who understand makes it so much easier. xxxxx
