Having an mastectomy on my left breast in two weeks I’m totally scared. Any tips or advice from those who have had this procedure would be helpful. Thank you

  • Hi, I had my left mastectomy on the 29th Nov. All went fine abd I was out of hospital the next day and drain removed 10 days later. I was driving after a week and found I had full movement in my arm. I am still doing the exercises to ensure that nothing ceases up and my scar is looking pretty good Smiley and hasn’t caused me any issues. I have a seroma (fluid under arm) but it’s not causing me any oribjdns abd surgeon advised that my body will absorb the fluid through time and then the swelling will disappear. Overall I found it not to bad, I slept a lot the week after surgery but out this down to the Anesthesia and relief that it was done. I hope that your surgery goes well and wishing you all good things for 2022 xx

  • Thanks for posting your update, I’m having a mastectomy in a couple of weeks so it’s nice to hear how others get on, hope you carry on in the same vein, all the best x

  • Hi

    • I had a double mastectomy with Immediate reconstruction last January. Honestly it wasn't as bad as I had imagined im my head.  I was in hospital for 2 nights and came home with drains on place.  I had these removed on sat 2 and 3xafter leaving hospital.
  • Sorry I must have pressed the wrong button!

My drains were removed on day 2 and 3 after leaving hospital.  I was recommended to have some front fastening pyjamas as lifting your arms can be difficult for a while. Like the others have said start the exercises as soon as you can as these really do help. I had bought myself a v shaped pillow as I was a front/side sleeper so wanted to wedge myself on my back. Ensure you have a front fastening bra too. I took a book and also downloaded something to watch on my phone.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I had my mastectomy on Tuesday. Surgery went well had a few issues after due to the GA but I’m feeling better. Stayed in for one night as my BP was low. In a lot of pain but I’m happy to be back home. Doing my exercise and taking it easy. Waiting for results in about a month praying it’s all good

  • So glad everything went well.  Take it easy and rest! Hoping your results are good ones

    Take care
