Preoperative diagnosis was Invasive Ductal Carcinoma / Grade 2 / with ?Lobular features.
SIze: 4.7mm
Taken Letrozole and on my 2nd months packet when I had the operation to remove the cancer.
Path Lab report after lumpectomy was quote "The appearances are consistent with total regression".
"No evidence of any residual tumour identified".
Can this be correct? That seems miraculous... but is this possible? Anyone had such short results from Letrozole?
Hi,
I wouldn't know the actual answer to your question but, my Breast Consultant said to me he has ladies who are unable to have Surgery for various reasons and so are on the Aromatase Inhibitors only, Letrozole being one of the AI's and they do very well on them. Be reassured, they wouldn't be reporting on the Path Lab report if it wasn't correct.
That's amazing, what fantastic news! It makes taking the pills worthwhile!
The way the AIs were put to me is that the hormone positive cancers need hormones to grow. Cut off the hormone supply, and they can no longer survive.
Thanks for sharing, that has made me feel much better about the sudden medical menopause that I am in plus the AI I am taking.
I don't know the answer to your question as ER & PR scores don't seem to be in the surgeons repertoire to his patients. It is not on the Pathology Report.
The Surgeon just said "its gone".
I had a list of questions, which he handed it right back to me and then he left after giving me a leaflet on biphosphonates (he said about getting my teeth checked nothing else).
I am seeing a radiologist tomorrow, maybe she will tell me what cancer I had. Hope dies last!
Letrozole seems to have no side effects for me. I have all over pain anyway as diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, it is no different so I don't think that has increased at all.
It just seems odd to me as the results of a complete lack of any cancer cells with just 6x weeks of Letrozole. I suppose it means I didn't need a lumpectomy. Unless others have this same experience I don't know what to think.
The diagnosis from the pre-op biopsy and a MRI scan was; IDC grade 2 with ?lobular features.
That's what I have, IDC grade 2 but still awaiting further lab results. What is Letrozole I haven't heard of this before? A friend is recommending something called B17 which I will also look into.
Letrozole is an aromatase inhibitor used in the treatment of hormone-receptive breast cancer. Letrozole is a prescribed treatment.
As for B17...sorry but I’d put my trust in the cancer experts rather than what a friend recommends.
This is from Cancer Research UK...
”Laetrile (amygdalin or vitamin B17)
Laetrile is promoted as an alternative cancer treatment. There is not enough reliable evidence that it works.
Summary
Hi yes this is all very new and a bit confusing. I haven't started any treatment yet as some results are still not back from biopsy. I wouldn't take anything not prescribed by the team at the hospital but am just trying to digest details of all the different treatments so I can better understand what they're on about.
Yes it is confusing and a frightening journey we find ourselves on. I didn’t find this site and forum until after my surgery, wish I’d known about it at the time of my referral. I found this book at my local library really helpful “The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer” by Liz O’Riordan and Trisha Greenhalgh. Written by doctors and very informative, not complicated, and it covers everything from diagnosis to treatment and after.
Best wishes x
Seems a bit rude not to answer your questions, the breast care nurse should be able to help with those but the main thing is your news. I got the scores from my original biopsy and I was just curious as I’ve just been told my tumour (now removed) didn’t react to my medication at all. I’ve been taking it for almost 4 months but my surgeon did think it was less than that but even so said tthere should have been some impact from it - I guess yours was highly receptive. It’s great news. I also have no side effects from the medication and with my non-existing medical training was adding 2+ 2 together to make 5 . I had IDC grade 2. Lots of luck with your radiotherapy xx
Thank you I will search out that book it sounds good.
