I've posted before about my wound, but here we are still: The wound under my breast towards the axilla hasn't healed, has become chronic and even gasped open at some point. I'm in special treatment with a special wound nurse / doctor (both) and we've tried negative pressure therapy (VAC therapy), now we're using a special placental allograft membrane. Yes, it has made some progress, a small part now epithelised. But then one part that had started to epithelise opened up again. But because I'm having chemo, it hasn't fully healed - because the chemo couldn't wait.
However, the main issue seems to be the tension and movement, of course, it's a breast. It cannot be completely still. Whenever I move even the slightest, of course it moves the skin.
They said it will probably heal after chemo finishes (last cycle next Monday). BUT I am no longer convinced: How can it ever heal if there is always movement and tension?
Anyone had this and it healed?
I'm so tired of this. I have cording now in my arm because I cannot move the arm too much. I have a stiff shoulder and I used to be very flexible before. I cannot do exercise or yoga or anything that would help me feel better. I can only sleep soso because only on one side. It's getting old.
Hi Colibri, sorry you’re having this issue, must be so distressing. I haven’t had this but I do remember a couple of years ago, a lovely lady here had a wound that took ages to heal. I think she’d had chemo first, then op (which I think was a lumpectomy). Her wound was very very slow to heal, she often sounded close to despair and I’m sure she ended up with a skin graft but the main reason I’m telling all this is that it did heal eventually. So I really hope yours will too. It sounds very much like the end of chemo should let your body start to heal properly. Sending a very gentle virtual hug your way, and hope that you’ll soon see the healing start. HFxx
Thank you, HappyFeet1, makes me feel a bit better. I really hope for the best!
Hi Colibri
I had surgery 6 weeks ago and my wound is struggling. I had a tram flap reconstruction and the t junction is not looking great. I feel your despair! You just want it to heal! I am on gel and dressings at last clinic appointment where they removed dead tissue! The slush as the nurses call it looks awful and I have now got visible stitches! My tummy wound has sealed really well but like you say as your moving all the time you are just rubbing the wounds!
I wish you well, what I have read it will heal eventually some can take up to 3 months but they get there in the end.
I just worry the breast( which is my tummy now!!) will need to come off and then you’ve gone through all that for nothing! My next appointment is 3 days before Christmas! Fingers crossed it starts to behave!!!
sending you healing thoughts
xx
Hi Rinie53
Thank you for your kind words! It is true and I know it - but it's been since August now and I'm so done with it.
BUT: I have finished chemo now - so I am in better spirits and everyone thinks it'll heal now for real! :)
I hope you will feel better soon too! I'll cross my fingers for you!
Colibri
