thankyou for letting me join. I was diagnosed in Sept of this year I don't know what stage nobody has said just that I've found it early. Was given the option of mastectomy or lumpectomy consultant was confident he could get it all with the lumpectomy so that's what happened last week with sentinel node removal. Just wondering if it's normal to be told I would get the results from this operation on 15th Dec and we will know if I need more surgery? I think Ive been 2alking around with my eyes and ear shut because I feel like I don't know what's going on with regards to a treatment plan. Would they have already discussed this in a mdt meeting I wonder?
Hi Hadenoughno2
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s not unusual to get your results two to three weeks after the operation. As far as I know the results are only talked about in a MDT meeting once they have them usually a day or two before you get your results.
Wishing you the best of luck with your results next month.
Best wishes

Hello Hadenoughno2 It's not uncommon for initial treatment plans to change, particularly after surgery, so the MDT will not be in a position to know if further surgery might be necessary until the results of your lumpectomy & sentinel node biopsy are known. They will then be in a better position to look at which Stage you are too. I was in a similar position to you, and my initial treatment plan following lumpectomy and sentinel node removal was to have radiotherapy followed by hormone treatment. Unfortunately they did not manage to get clear margins during the lumpectomy and one of my sentinel nodes was found to have some cancer in so my treatment plan changed completely and I instead had 6 months of chemo and will be having further surgery in the new year. I was diagnosed in May and have only just been given a Stage, but was told that this may change following further surgery so bear in mind that it isn't just treatment plans that might change. It often feels like a bit of a whirlwind initially but things will settle down once your surgery results are known and your treatment plan has been put in place. Hopefully your surgery will have been successful but the waiting for the results is the worst. There is a lot of support available here if you need it, and wishing you well with your future treatment x
