I recently posted wondering if tamoxifen was behind the headaches I was getting or wether it was just stress. I was told to stop tamoxifen yesterday as I am waiting to start Chemo and already this morning my head feels more clearer and no dull headache. I'm supposed to be going back onto tamoxifen after treatment is this a side effect I will have to put up with and take paracetamol everyday or is it something I need to discuss with bc nurse please?

  • Hi Strawberry4

I would mention it to your breast care nurse, they may be able to lower the dose when you go back to having it.

Best of luck with your chemo.

Thanks Daisy53 I will mention it to them.

  • there may be other options if tamoxifen doesn't agree with you. I was also told that most side effects settle down in 6 months.

From experience, taking paracetamol every day to stop headaches will end up giving you worse headaches as it can give you rebound headaches - your body needs the pill to stop the pain and eventually your own body stops producing anything itself to stop the pain. You then get withdrawal headaches after time without the pill (I found I always got morning headaches so this can be just a few hours of not taking anything) but the paracetamol no longer works. I used to get daily chronic headaches and they are not fun.

    Worth mentioning to your oncologist.

Thankyou I will do that they even got worse when I changed them and took that at night time I woke up with headache on a morning even worse.

  • I find I'm thirstier since starting Tamoxifen so I wonder if they could be dehydration headaches? Just a thought.

  • You may also need to try another brand. Different brands = different fillers. It may take a month or so to find the one that suits you. Perhaps worth getting a local chemist/pharmacist on your side x
