Just been diagnosed with triple negative best cancer. It is grade two and 1.6 mm and stage 2.I had HER positive breast cancer 11 years ago on the same breast it was 1.5 cm and also stage 2. I was told that I needed a mastectomy which I had 4 weeks ago and going to see the oncologist next week. I do not know is it usual to have a Her2 positive tumour and then have a negative tumour on the same breast. I am in a total panic and could do with some advice on what to ask the oncologist.
I would ask what the treatment options are and why these were the best options for me. Then I would ask about any possible side effects of the proposed treatments, what the schedule would be, and for how long. Also, how does past treatment affect your treatment options now, if at all. I would ask about the chance of recurrance once treatment was finished (they may quote statistics on that rather than base the answer on your own case,) and although it seems coincidental I would still ask if there is a connection between these two different cancers. Then I would ask how soon I need to make a decision.
Find out who your key worker is this time around, get her phone number, email address, what days she is there and who to contact if you need a nurse on her day off.
Stage 2 is treated with the aim to cure and statistical projections are very good overall, but of course each one of us wants reassurance based on our own specific circumstances.
