Did anyone get an extra surprise regarding their diagnosis once pathology reported on your tumour following excision? I’m waiting my 2 weeks now to get those results, I wondered if they ever really spring surprises on you, or is your initial diagnosis from biopsies usually 100%. I’m a curious bunny. PrayPray

  • Yes once they have physically looked at the tumour they know far more about it. Xx

  • Unfortunately yes it can happen. My DCIS with LCIS turned out to host extensive invasive cancer which means I now need a mastectomy, and sizes or grades or tumour can change. But my surgeon says a grade 1 could turn out to be a grade 2 but it’s highly unlikely to be a grade 3 or 4. Sometimes it’s less worrisome than thought. Either way, the best way to think of it is that the more information they have the better than can treat the cancer.

  • Anabrock. What wise words - the more information they have the better they can treat the cancer. Thank you for saying this, it really gives everything the right perspective. Ros.

  • As others have said, they hve all the information about the tumour once they take it out and the biopsy is only a tiny bit of it.

It can go a good way too - they told me mine was grade 2 aggressive a biopsy and it turned out to be grade 1. So that was a nice surprise!
