Hi, I recently had surgery for triple negative cancer and my consultant has written a letter telling me that my NPI is 4.18. What does this mean? Would be grateful for any advice. My next appointment is a few weeks away. Thanks
Hi , I’m not medically qualified but I understand NPI to be an older system of classifying breast cancers by size, grade etc that seems to be mostly used by surgeons today. oncologists use other systems like Predict , which is based on huge volumes of patient data, to discuss with us the impact that cancer treatments like chemotherapy or radiotherapy may have on our prognosis. Id suggest waiting for your appointment and raise it then if you need to. My oncologist never referred to my NPI score. I think most patients now wouldn’t know what it is. Treatment for BC is so individual these days that your own team are by far the best source of information so resist Dr Google at all costs!
Waiting for results is the worst. I found it really difficult so I absolutely get it. Your team will have a plan for your treatment and once you get that and can get started you will feel much better. Till then be nice to yourself xx
