Two weeks today I had breast and lymph nodes out on left side. Today my drains were removed and I had a proper look at myself. It's horrible. I just want advice please from other ladies who had this. My stitches are dissolvable glue apparently. My scars are either numb or itching. What stage did you put creams on and what did you use please? Any replies will be gratefully received! xx

    Hi cupboardlove,

Nice to chat again. My scars are horrible too. I didn't expect it. I used e45 when the scar was dry and crusty. My arms are still numb 10 weeks in and finely the Seromas are going down too. It's been difficult . The itching didn't last long when I used the cream . My physio always massages the scar to mobilize it so it doesn't stick to the chest wall. I'm not sure about glue stitches. Maybe ask clinic in the morning X

Saw my surgeon today. 7 out of 16 lymph nodes were cancerous so radiotherapy next which is scarey, but he said its all gone. He told me not to waste money on expensive creams, just cheap moisturizer will do, but numbness and scarring are here to stay. He's so nice, said he will do reconstruction but waiting list is long. I'm going to use the 2 year wait to get a grip on healthy eating and fitness if I can. Good luck with your Chemo Jayne. I know its been the thing you've been dreading so please let me know how you go on xxx

  • Popping on to say hello…I had a mastectomy over 3 years ago. I used bio oil to help with scarring. It’s my drain hole that doesn’t look very nice. The scar area is numb as are under and back of my arms - which I’m sort of used to now.

Radiotherapy was a doddle for me…tired yes but no other issues….apart from the daily drive!

Good luck! May your healing be swift and your treatments kind to you!

    Galligirl!

oh how lovely to hear from a 3 year veteran!! it's like a voice from my future in a daft way, lol!! I will try bio oil then. I can't wait to timehop and say this was my experience was 3 years ago!! I hope since your experience of breast cancer life has been kind? I do hope so, you take care xxx

  • I’m doing okay - thank you! I won’t lie recovery has taken time, feel free to read my profile. I see life a little differently now…I describe it as ‘through a new lens…sharper…more colourful…in more detail’. And, I have a mop of curly hair!

  • Hi Cupboardlove

There are silicone healing strips for scars you can buy on Amazon - they are really good you stick them on.  Check with your surgeon before you apply them to make sure your scar is ready to take them.  I’m still using them.  It can take weeks/months but makes a huge difference.  Best wishes, Jan x

    Jaguar,

Thanks for the advice, I will wait until 4 weeks are up then try them. I suppose I assumed it would just be a pretty and ladylike scar, ha ha. Not a numb and nasty one!!

    Thank you Jan!

  • I used the scar reduction strips too although mine was only lumpectomy but they were brilliant and really made a difference to the scars
