Hi all
Today I am having my first Zoladex injection. Just wondering how anyone got on with it and did you have any side effects
TIA
The main side effect is the menopause. By 3 weeks after your first injection, you have the same levels of oestrogen as someone who is post-menopausal. It is supposed to be slightly more gentle than ovary removal, which puts you into medical menopause overnight, but it is nevertheless a very quick reduction of hormones and therefore symptoms can, unfortunately, be intense.
I had my first zoladex during chemo so hard to say whether chemo intensified side effects, but I was fine for 3 weeks then I had intense hot flushes and night sweats. Pleased to say they do reduce in severity and I'm now almost a year on and they are pretty manageable now.
Other side effects are anything menopause!
Huntygirl,
I just wanted to add to Beatthebteast that I use Emla cream which I apply a hour before the implant which I cover with a non-absorbent dressing which reduces pain? You may have used this but I thought I would mention it just in case for the next time.
Also I experienced hot flushes a few times a day but now it is about once a day. I take Exemestane and Ibandronic Acid too. I hope you don’t find it too bad.
