Hi Everyone.
well I had my lumpectomy surgery and sentinel node biopsy on both breasts on Friday .
I suppose it went well although my after care seemed chaotic . I am at home now . Phoning the doctors for stronger painkillers this morning . Paracetamol and ibuprofen are not enough . One thing I am worried about is the numbness I am experiencing on my left upper arm . Anyone else get that ?
also not having dressings changed until next Friday . Does anyone think that should be sooner ?
Like a lot of you horrible waiting game now to see if the cancer has gone into my lymph nodes .
Any feedback gratefully acknowledged .

Hi Penny
I personally did not have arm numbness after similar, just in the axilla itself. It is ok now, back to normal. I think it is early days for you, if your surgery was Friday. You should try not to worry about it for now. Like the rest of us, you have had a lot of tinkering and disturbance in your tissues and there is bound to be bruising/swelling remaining at this stage. Hopefully as that resolves, you will find that the feeling gradually comes back.
Wishing you all the best

Hello. I'm afraid to say that after having 3 out of 4 sentinel nodes removed it takes ages to heal. I was told that nerves repair themselves 2mm at month. I'm 3 months down the line from surgery and just finished radiotherapy. The back of my arm is still numb and tingly as is my armpit. it does feel better but takes a long time to heal especially with the poking and prodding they have done. It is perfectly normal however if you feel concerned, speak to your breast nurse. gentle massage with moisture lotion helped me as not suffered any swelling. I feel more achy after finishing radiotherapy than after surgery although I think I tried to do too much. keep up with exercises as this does help x
Hi Penny,I am 4 weeks post opp, same as you, but, just one boob, and yes,I had numbness for approx 3weeks,in armpit going down the inner arm a little, getting slightly less as the 3rd week approached, think it isn,t unusual. As for dressing,I didn,t have any ♀️My wounds were glued, maybe yours are different as in stitched.x
Yes I have that and I'm 7 weeks on . It will take time I got tramodol from my doctor and codine . They helped , no dressings can be left on as they are protesting you against infection they told me not to get them wet . I had a clearance on one arm and 3 nodes taken from the other. Just one had cancer in the node. Penny , you are so right it's a waiting game now , be prepared for them to suggest an Oncotype test if you are early and Estrogen positive that will take another 3 weeks . Most oncologists won't begin any treatment on a breast cancer patient for 6 weeks after surgery so I would just get better from the surgery now and the time will fly and pain should start to subside this week . My pain came from cording and seroma not the surgery .
Cheers Jayne
Hi, I had mastectomy and axillary clearance on Wednesday. I have numbness in my armpit and inner arm, they said it can take up to 6 months for this to go. Feels very strange, especially when washing. I had my drain out and dressings removed this morning, feeling much more comfortable now. I asked for codienewhich I needed for the first4 days, only needed 1 lot of paracetamol today. I have felt tightness at times if I've overstretched a bit and tingling too, told this was normal. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
