Hello All. I am new in here. My name is Julia. I am 36 and been diagnosed with grade 3 triple negative breast cancer in May. Due to Covid I was afraid that diagnosis and treatment will be delayed, but everything was very quick. I already had 3 x three weekly chemotherapies and had 4 weeks out of 9 of my weekly chemotherapies. I am coping very well. Only had 2 set backs with gum infection and shingles.
Also was diagnosed with Cancer gene. And because I am very lucky it just had to be Brca1.
After I finish my chemotherapy I am planing to have double mastectomy and ovaries and ovarian tubes removed. I was told I can do it in one, two and three operations. I am thinking to have it done in one big operation. I am considering belly flap for breast reconstruction.
I keep joking that I will get a belly tuck and new set of boobs
That everyone's opinion about belly flap? There you happy with it? How difficult was recovery? How bad scars on your breasts and how your belly looks?
I am freaking out a bit as this will be my first operation and also don't want to look horrible after operation. I am worried that all of this will affect my relationship with my husband. He has been very good so far, but all of this is very scary.
Hi Julia
Sorry you find yourself here and your diagnosis. I cannot help with your question, I did have a single mastectomy last week but I've gone flat, was a very easy desision. The hospital staff were unbelievable, hope all goes well, and someone can help with your question x
Hi ,
my tummy is flat , I only had left reconstruction but it’s amazing, so I imagine two would be even better - a matching pair . I wasn’t good to start with , covering mirrors etc - silly me ! Hubby thought my tummy and boobs were amazing , ok I’m older than you but I still feel young .
your body won’t be the sane after all the surgery , but no breast scars , tummy scar fades in time - I had section scars which have been replaced . numbness didn’t bother me , You will get some feeling back but could take a couple of years . Don’t be afraid to ask for physio therapy- I did and seen them twice snd I was fine .
big thing is be extra good to yourself , massage in the shower and massage with body lotion/ oils too . Massage really helps .
after your surgery and like you I think I would go for all in one .
when you need to move up the bed - dig heals in and push from your heals .
when you are out of bed - shoulders back and bottom in and everything will fall into place and you won’t hurt your back stooping .
your recovery will take time - probably 4/6 weeks. Be kind to yourself .
this is major surgery and you will get through it ,
take care
love

Hey there just reading you post mastectomy. I’m going into my 4th week post right breast mastectomy, remained flat as couldn’t have basic recon as I had had radiotherapy. Have you any fluid in your wound…. I can weirdly feel mine moving about..my scar is healing well but just not sure when I can start using bio oil or something on it. I managed to lie on my side last night!!! A huge relief! Hopefully seeing breast nurse for some advice next week and possible fitting for prosthesis if my fluid gone!

Hi WhitestarWhitestar
I seem to be getting some under my arm near my ribs, but my surgeon did a quilting effect to try and stop and breast build up, I didn't need a drain either. I seem to read its very common. I ve another dressing change and results in 3 days so will get it checked. We'll done on managing to sleep in your side must be a relief, I've joined the Flat Friends UK face book group it might help.
Take care x
Good morning , yes I had drains and yes one to one nursing for first day , Kept in a room of my own the whole time . I was very well looked after . I was in hospital 8 days . All drains removed before I left hospital .
Take care

Wee note - anyone can post on face book and no monitoring. Photos etc can be copied .
there are folk out there who enjoy posting false posts .
Best to stick to Macmillan or Breast Cancer Care .
Thanks for reply. Yes I’ve a little bit under my arm too. Hopefully it will disperse soon! Maybe I will think about that group in weeks to come. I’m just coming to terms with it all! Good luck with your results. x
