My mums had her mastectomy 4 weeks ago now, approaching 5. Initially they didn’t find any lymph node involvement on the ultrasound but they did take lymph node biopsy during surgery and it was positive.
Last week we had our results appointment, but they said they can’t give us details as they are still waiting for some results. They only said that the lymph nodes contained cancer so they have ordered a ct scan. It’s been a week since so I gave them a call and still no appointment has been made yet. Says pending…
checked on google which says waiting times for ct can be 18 weeks so I’m worried about this whole thing now.
how long did you guys wait for an appointment? Just want to get a rough idea
I had my CT scan before chemo (which was pre-surgery). It was part of my initial diagnosis before they had a treatment plan for me. They told me when I got the results to the MRI scan that I needed a CT scan, and it was booked in that day for the following week, and the appointment to get the results was a week later, also booked in the same day I had the results from the MRI.
I have to say, I could not fault my experience with the NHS (I'm in Scotland). Every time I had an appointment they told me exactly what was coming up next and when and I usually had it booked in before I left. Everything went like clockwork.
I don't think the CT scan you will have looked up would have been for the same situation. Once you're in the system, things should be running a bit more smoothly. 18 weeks sounds like an initial scan for a more minor issue rather than as a diagnostic tool when you're in the middle of cancer treatment.
Hopefully you will hear soon.
Thank you so much for your reply. Seems like the experience and waiting times is very different nationwide. Just a bit lost of what I should do
CT scan was prior to radiotherapy for me but at a different hospital (click my name to read more). think it was about 10 weeks. they give you at least 6 weeks min as you have to heal before they can start rads. everything seems to be a little delayed too - covid still causing havoc x
Not sure yet as to whether mum will be having chemo or rad. Just so stressful
Had an appt for an MRI and CT scan before any real consideration of the surgery. Ordered by Breast Surgeon along with blood test straightaway at first consultation. Because previous biopsies oestrogen positive and nodes clear, chemo was not thought to be of benefit, but radiotherapy was on the cards at that early stage.
Did you have lymph node involvement? I did ask for one but they didn’t as at the time they didn’t see lymph node involvement on ultrasoud. But obviously that changed after surgery
No. Clear on biopsies, but still 5 removed in operation, couldn't persuade her not to. They were all clear and one lymph node found and removed in the breast itself.
I guess it was still better to be safe! Would’ve preferred that honestly
Hi, my mri was requested by my plastics consultant to confirm sizing and positioning to see if I could have less invasive surgery, theraputic mammoplasty. I waited just over a week for appointment was very quick. Because of cancer diagnosis you are usually put through as a 2 week wait. Best wishes xx
