I think I’ve figured out the letter I was sent  but my head was in a bit of a whirlwind earlier so can anyone help me break it down so that I can try and rationalise my thoughts ( if that makes sense )

diagnosis - palpable lump left breast , 2 areas measuring 10mm on each , total area  30mm including nipple

core biopsy - grade 2 ductal carcinoma , oestrogen receptor 8/8 and 7/8 .

Left breast axillary lymph node FNA LC4 equivocal but no palpable lymph nodes in left axilla

  • Hi , I'm not sure what your question is but to me (and I could be wrong so best double check with your breast care nurse or medical team) what you have said above in plain English is

    - they could feel a lump in your left breast

    - they took a sample of the lump and when analysed it was cancerous and that oestrogen could promote the cancers growth.  Did they say if it was also progesterone receptive or not?  If they didn't tell you ask them.

    - Axillary lymph node (these are the nodes in your armpit) FNA (fine needle aspiration) to me says they took samples from the nodes in your armpit to test for spread to the nodes

    -  no palpable lymph nodes in left axilla to me says they couldn't feel anything abnormal going on with the lymph nodes like a swelling or lump.

I have no medical experience and the above is how I would interpret what you were told.  You should clarify your understanding with your doctors to be sure.

So far to me it doesn't sound too bad.  My cancer was similar - grade 2, hormone positive to oestrogen and progesterone and in the left breast.  You can click on my name to read my story.

Hope you get your treatment plan soon as generally people feel much better and less anxious once they get their treatment plan.

Wishing you all the best x
