Waiting and waiting

Hello,

My mum was diagnosed 4 weeks ago now, with stage 3 HER2 and eastrogen positive cancer. It took 4 weeks for the HER2 results to come back, so she hasnt been able to even see an oncologist yet. My mum is petrified, as we all are, sat waiting and waiting for treatment to start. 4 weeks seems too long to not even of had an oncologist appt yet, let alone no treatment plan set in place. Has any one else been through this?

  • So sorry to hear, the waiting is always the worst time, I think the NHS are meant to start treating within 6 weeks of diagnosis and I'm not sure you always see an oncologist, whoever gave your Mum her diagnosis is a good place to start chasing, hoping you already have a Macmillan nurse who could also help or your GP.  Hope that helps, Ann

  • Hi Youhavegotthis

When I,was diagnosed last year I had a six week wait before I started treatment.

    Best wishes

Hi, the waiting is unbearable, I waited 7 weeks first time round for HER2 results before they could start my treatment.  In the end my surgery was 2 months after my diagnosis, 3 months from me finding the lump.  There was a problem at the Lab in Birmingham (I am in wolverhampton) so might be affecting your mom too in Shropshire.

Thankfully my results after surgery came back in 3 weeks so didn’t have to endure such a long wait before next stage of treatment.

once they start the treatment they are amazing and you and your mom will feel the relief I am sure.

    thinking of you xx

  • I will do, thank you afews days short of 6 weeks. I understand all results are important and urgent to each individual, but think I will flip if mine have been delayed unnecessary xx

  • Hi, did you have your surgery without yr her2 result xx

  • Thankyou, really test your mental health. Has your mom been given her her2 results now, if so what was the result.  Sending best wishes xx
