Hi you lovely lot. Just after your thoughts on a call I had with my breast nurse earlier today. I had lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy 9 days ago. Nurse called to double check it was ok to have a sample sent to america for the chemo test, bit annoyed its not already gone as now when I go for my follow up we still won't know if I need chemo or not. However she did mention I will not need more surgery. So my thought is (I know I should have asked her) does this mean do you think that they collected good margins and primarily my lymph nodes are clear.
Hi , Inwould say yes, if there were no clear margins you would need another op, and if the sentinel nodes contained cancer there would have been more surgery or a conversation about options. The oncotype test is also not suitable if you have more than a very small amount of cancer in the lymph nodes, so another indication they are clear ?
I know they have to get permission for the oncotyoe test , but can’t get that until they have the initial results , so that is probably the reason it hasn’t been done before now.
Good luck with the rest of your treatment
Jo x
