First the good news. I had a lumpectomy of my R breast two weeks ago. Removed two sites of concern, one intermediate and one high grade. Yesterday had the good news that all the margins were clear. No further surgery just radiotherapy. I feel like I have my life back after 2 months of fear and anxiety.
A Seroma has mostly absorbed and the wound looks fine. The skin is highly sensitive and feels like a bruise. How long does this go on for? Doesn’t help that I have big boobs so fighting against gravity! Wearing flexifit bra plus camisole with shelf support 24 hrs.
To celebrate we have booked a short cruise in a months time so I am hoping it will be fine to have the radiotherapy when we return ( 7 weeks post op).
Good wishes to all you lovely supportive people x
Congratulations on good news. I am large breasted, G cup. I wore my underwired after surgery as the wires were nowhere near scar (top left of left breast) and I needed support to stop weight pulling down on scar. For radiotherapy underwired a no no as the breast becomes hot like sunburn. I bought 2 post surgery bras from Debenhams as so soft inside as they double lined for you to put softie in. I found sizing hard though but went up a back size or two to get a comfy fit. Became a bit addictive even if they did give me an awful shape!!
Lovely news and gives me hope, I had lumpectomy on Monday. My oncologist has said radiotherapy 7-8 weeks post op by the wwy
What good news. I have my planning meeting for radiotherapy today - its been 9 weeks since surgery. have healed well but like Grogg, I am well endowed so still wearing a bra 24/7. if I don't wear a bra at night when I sleep on my side I wake up with a pulling sensation. Have yet to try my wired bra on. soft bras are great but feel a little slack!
keep going ..one day at a time x
Let us know how you get on. I've got my proper appts starting 23 Aug. Very quick.
That would be perfect timing for me.It’s only a 4 day cruise but is on the Queen Elizabeth. We had to cancel 3 holidays when I was diagnosed but as hubby says you need to be well to have holidays.
I hope your healing goes well. Don’t be too disconcerted if you hear fluid sloshing in your boob, normally it will absorb over time.As one of the forum ladies said, it sounds like a hot water bottle.
Hi Diane, how does it work with travel insurance, have you had to arrange a special policy or pay more as haven’t completed treatment?
I need to book a holiday for something to look forward to but was worried about not being able to get travel insurance.
Chelle
Hi Chelle
I arranged mine via holiday extras. You have to declare it. They would only do a single trip because of ongoing treatment .I was concerned but they checked with underwriters and it is fine even though radiotherapy is outstanding. I think if it was invasive cancer they may ask more questions.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
