Hi,
As background I had grade 2 ER+ HER2- breast cancer which was removed 3 weeks ago via mammoplasty.
Was told this week that the mammoplasty was fully successful however my SLNB has shown 2 of the 4 sentinel lymph nodes showed cancer traces, although the other 2 were totally clear. Now recommended for ALND.
Has anyone else had this, who hasn’t had a masectomy? If so how have you found it post-op?? Has it been easier / the same / worse than the SLNB???
To be honest I have had virtually no pain from the mammoplasty, but the armpit incision for the SLNB has been sore & tender. The drain drove me nuts - so not looking forward to having another drain so soon…
Would appreciate hearing from others. Many thanks xx
Hi Howdy_Calam
i had a mammoplastery 5 weeks ago but they did ALND at the same time as traces found in sentinel however it was only 1 node affected they took about 10 so that I did not need more surgery. To be honest that has been more sore than the breast area but 5 weeks on and it is getting easier it’s more when you try and stretch your arm and being careful with housework it ached quite a lot at first but once again easier now I have got a bit of numbness at the top of my arm but apparently that is normal and will get better . My next step is chemo and I’m terrified at the moment. Good luck with whatever you are facing next
xx
Hi Missy60,
Have to admit chemo also terrifies me but I’m just trying to concentrate on the next step only - which for me is another op for the ALND. If I think beyond that, it overwhelms me…
Have found the mental side of all of this the toughest - all the ‘what ifs’ and the ‘unknowns’. And then the waiting for results with your brain rushing off in all directions and seemingly never shutting off!
Sending best wishes back at ya for your next steps xx
Hi I had a mammaplasty followed by ALND. I recovered well from the first op. Two weeks out from second op still painful. I have a slight banding underarm despite exercises the stretches are essential. Have started pregabalin for nerve pain. The underarm is more sensitive and I was warned it could be more painful.
Hi Abc63 - sorry to hear yours is still painful. My surgeon has warned me it will take me longer to recover from this op. Had my CT scan yesterday and now just have to wait for the op date to come round - it’s on 27 Aug. Hope your arm starts to ease up soon xx
