Hi, due to see my oncologist next week to discuss chemotherapy plan. Does all the chemo drugs, make you lose your hair?
Hello, no not all but it is very likely. Some people choose to use a cold cap to save it successfully, some find their hair thins but doesn’t come out but the vast majority of us (anecdotally) do loose our hair. The cold cap has its own issues and some people tolerate it more than others. I’m sorry I know how traumatic that thought can be. When you have your consultation they’ll be able to let you know what you’re facing x all the best xx
That's definitely something to ask the oncologist, because it depends on the chemo drugs they're planning to give you. Some are pretty much certain to cause hair loss and others not so certain.
I'm having EC-T and was told a solid "yes you will lose your hair". I did scalp cooling for the first 2 sessions (the 1st session was done incorrectly) but it started falling out at 17 days and by 28 days it was driving me mad. It was falling into my eyes, mouth and nose all night. I had the hairdresser give me a grade 2. Actually a lot remained but it was patchy. What remained has grown and now at cycle 4 I have new growth. But everyone is different.
All the best x
Hiya- im having fec-t and those drugs do sadly cause hair loss. I’ve been using the cold cap. I have lost about 70% of my hair but everyone is different- I’ve heard some people don’t loose much at all. I’ve just completed round 4/6 chemo and even though I’ve lost hair I’ve noticed that I have regrowth in somE areas so I’m hoping its starting to grow back by carrying on using the cold cap. I can wear a cap/hat when out and you wouldn’t know I’ve lost any hair ( providing I don’t take it off) which for me has really helped give me confidence when out.
if you do try the cold cap my chemo nurse recommended taking paracetamol an hour before, take a blanket and hot drink and something to chew on when the cold cap first goes on to help take you mind off it - works wonders for me and then once I’m used to it after a few minutes i almost forget it’s on.
How this helps.
Hi I am currently having EC chemo cycle treatment following treatment Big name begins with letter D cycle 5 months in total and I was told a straight yes wud lost all my hair on the EC cycle. So i went and got my eyebrows tattoo on as cudnt bear not having eyebrows think wud make me sick today that makes sense and was best thing I did now I still have eyebrows I’m day 13 of first cycle and Sunday eve my hair started to fall out clumps so so heartbreaking even tho beforehand I went and got it cut short as I had long red hair so thought maybe a Bob wudnt be much a shock but my goddess it was so hard to see it all fall out and so soon only first cycle. So yesterday me and my 5 sisters went and my amazing hairdresser did a shave grade 1 and so surprised how much I suit this than the short hair now I did cried and cried more for my children, but I have beautiful turbans hats to match my baba girl she 10 months and my wig is being made . I didn’t have the option of cold cap as I’m in Northern Ireland and we don’t have the funds for it here . But any advice I can give is take control of it before cancer does and you chose when to lose your hair not cancer . Same as for eyebrows best advice a lady gave me was to get them done so glad I did . Sending you lots of love you have this girl x
Good luck Betsy. Please run the tattoo idea past your consultant because I was told not to do this because of the risk of infection, not that I am in anyway saying Neevy is wrong because we all follow the advice we’re given and make our own choices and I’m delighted that it worked for her most genuinely, whatever gets you through x I’m also on EC-T and my hair has gone but my eyebrows and lashes are holding on in there! I stopped wearing mascara and make up on them both so I wasn’t taking them out removing the make up x
Hi yes definitely ask before hand I got my done week after my breast surgery knew chemo was on the cards so wanted to be ready for the eyebrows but your right about infection you have to have them done beforehand just incase of any risk etc . So maybe try now if you have time . Still have eyebrows and lashes for now but I’m only ok first cycle so who knows x
