Hi I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy 10 days ago, had an infection last week and still taking antibiotics. I have a lump the size of a grape under my sentinel node biopsy scar and just wondered whether this is normal as there is bound to be swelling after the surgery.
Hi Di
Sorry you've not been well. Could the lump be a seroma. I was given a leaflet about seroma by my hospital. They describe it as likely if you had some lymph nodes removed. Its fluid collecting under the wound that the body cannot drain in the usual way. The leaflet says its a common side effect of breast surgery and does not mean something has gone wrong. The leaflet also says it's safe to leave for a few days if small. If you're worried contact your Breast Care Nurse.
I hope this helps. xx
I had my lumpectomy and SLNB on Wednesday and still finding the node wound more sore than the lumpectomy wound.
Big hugs
Thanks for the advice, I had no pain or problems with the lumpectomy wound, it’s the node wound that is causing the soreness, had antibiotics last week because it was hurting and I had a veiny looking rash under my breast, when I first noticed it I thought it was bruising coming out but started taking antibiotics and it was gone in 2 days, so it was definitely something.
I did eventually get in contact with BCN and she thinks it’s a seroma she just told me to keep an eye on it and if it gets bigger and restricts movement to contact her.
Big hugs
Diane xx
