Hi everyone,
I had a lumpectomy and SLNB 9 days ago. My pain is pretty good, bit tender but I can hear fluid swishing around. Pretty sure it's a seroma. Do I need to let my Bcn know or can I just leave it to see if it settles first?
Thanks
Kelly
Hi Kelly.
I have DCIS with active cells. I had my lumpectomy 6 days ago and I can also hear fluid swishing around, very disconcerting! I have left a message for the breast care nurses so expect to hear from them tomorrow about whether I leave it longer to see if the body absorbs it or have it aspirated. Other than that healing feels like it is going well.I have my OPA post op check on 9/8/21. Really hoping the tissue has a clear margin. I want to know when I will have radiotherapy so that I can book a break away. 3 holidays cancelled due to the diagnosis.
Let me know how you get on
Di
I had contact by email from the BCN, she said it sounds like part of the normal healing process , take pain relief if required and they will see me as planned on the 9th.
Am doing exercises and other day to day activities, though feeling tired at times. It is not really painful but the area around the wound has become very sensitive with a bruised feeling. I only took painkillers for two days after the op but may see if they relieve the discomfort. Big boobs and gravity don’t help! Am wearing a soft flexifit bra and a shelf camisole all the time which helps.
Have told friends I feel like Les Dawson in the Cissie and Ada sketch where he keeps nudging his breast into place
So good to have a place like this for advice and support.
Hi, I saw my bcn yesterday and she said to just leave it to reabsorb naturally because if she drained it my breast would become disfigured. She also recommended getting a larger bra to cover the swelling. I got 2 seamless bras from sainsburys and it has already made a difference! Not as achy but I still sound like a hot water bottle
That’s it exactly Kelly , have taken some ibuprofen and will see if it helps .
Take care x
Hi Kelly, I had mastectomy in May and axilliary node clearance 3 weeks ago, had seroma aspiration last Friday as it was like a tennis ball size under my armpit! Couldn’t put my arm down straight! They don’t like aspirating as risk of introducing infection but mine was 300 mls so removed. Small ones will reabsorb but takes a while. it is disconcerting feeling it slosh tho, more you do actively tho the higher the risk and they can come back x
