So I got my results yesterday evening. It’s Mucinous Grade 1 ER+. I hadn’t heard Of this tire so I’ve been up most of the night researching it. Has anyone else in here got or has it?
now I know I’m going to try to put my brave pants on and get it sorted
it’s all going to happen really quickly now because the surgeon has a space next Tuesday to do a wire guided lumpectomy and to take some lymph nodes and I’ve said do it.
my head is whirling. Could anyone give me advice on what to expect please. They said it will be a day surgery so that’s good. OMG this is happening!!
any advice red pop or recovery would be really appreciated.
big hugs to all xx
Hi Imarah, that’s good that you’re going in next Tuesday at least you don’t have long to think about it or think about when you’re going to get the date to go in.
I found the wire being inserted uncomfortable but not painful it pulled a bit, I had it done the day before surgery and then an isotope injection to pick up the lymph nodes on the morning of surgery that stung but only for a minute didn’t feel anything after. The surgery was straight forward had no real pain that couldn’t be controlled with paracetamol. Couldn’t eat from 7 on the morning of surgery as my op was in the afternoon and had to isolate for 7 days and have a Covid test 72 hrs before.
I have heard of mucinous breast cancer but only because I was reading up about breast cancer in general, was surprised there were so many different ones. But at least it’s grade 1 which is slow growing.
Keep us posted if you get chance.
Big hugs
Diane x
Thanks Diane. I thought I’d read loads of stuff on the various types but I’d never heard of this. I have to say the Consultant and the breast care nurse we’re both really good which helped me.
thx for the info on the pre op stuff. The nurse has spoken to me this morning and explained a bit more but it’s always better to hear someone’s experiences first hand.
i have to admit I’m scared but I just want it sorted now and like you say I don’t have to wait too long for the op. It’s a whirlwind.
big hug xx
I had wire guided surgery in 2015. I went to hospital A at 8.30 for wire insertion. I had to lie face down on table with breast hanging through hole and the jacked table up like a car. Couldn't feel anything aside from 1 sharp prick for local anaesthetic going in. Then had quick mammogram to check in right place & it was coiled & covered. Then had to drive to hospital b - 12 mikes away for main operation. I went down to theatre at 3pm, discharged & home by 8pm eating home made leek & potato soup. I was pain free & required no pain relief . The only issue I had was when BC nurse checked wound 2 days later I still had pressure dressing on. She said they should have told me to remove the following day as it was now stuck firm!
Yes forgot about the rest of the wire installation although mine was like the core biopsy and the scan, she scanned it made a small incision after local anaesthetic and inserted the wire, then had mammogram to make sure it was in the right location, then coiled and covered. Next day went for surgery at 1.20pm and was back up around 4.20pm and left hospital at 9.45pm. No pressure dressing, just dissolvable stitches and glue, although I think I’d feel better if someone would check it’s ok.
Hi Imarah
I'm new here and this is my first post.
I too have mucinous cancer and had wire guided lumpectomy on 30 June. I have an appointment tomorrow to find out about radiotheraphy etc.
Mucinous cancer is quite rare and I found this mention which I found quite reassuring: https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/breast-cancer/stages-types-grades/types/rare-types-breast-cancer
I had a radioactive isotope injection the day before surgery and wires inserted in the morning and was operated in the afternoon. They give you a local anaesthetic for the wire insertion so it is nothing to worry about. During surgery they injected blue dye to identify the first lymph node to remove for pathology examination
The blue dye makes your wee (and number 2's) bright blue for the first few days after the operation which I found quite amusing.
The operation itself was not that bad. Of course I was sore, but I managed with paracetamol and ibuprofen although they did give me codein which I decided I didn't need.
I recommend that you do the exercises they give you every day without fail to make sure you get movement back in your arm and shoulder area.
Also, have a small cushion to hand to support your arm and prop yourself up with an extra pillow in bed at night.
My cancer is grade 2, Oestrogen and Progesterone positive, but HER-2 negative. They did not find any cancer cells in the lymph node they removed but I will be having radiotherapy, hormone treatment and bone strengthening infusions.
I am 62 years old so already post-menopausal.
Good luck with the operation tomorrow, you will be fine x
Hi Danish pastry. Thanks for all your advice and for the info on mucinous cancer. X
i hope your appointment Goes well tomorrow.
I’m feeling a bit like a zombie at the moment but just want it sorted.
I’m having my last cup of tea in bed at the moment. Don’t think I’m going to sleep though ! Thx again to you and all xx
