Chemotherapy

Had my first FEC yesterday.  Was vomiting and nauseous for about 12 hours. It settled but nausea persists. I am taking my meds and it takes the edge off. How long does this usually last? I am just feeling emotional and overwhelmed tonight and honestly hope that deciding to have chemo was the right choice. I had lumpectomu with clear margins and no lymph node involvement but Oncotype came back as 21

Based on my age, they strongly recommended chemo to prevent recurrence but right now I wonder if it was the right choice...

  • I vomited for 24 hours after my first chemo and had to be hospitalised to get an IV injection to make it stop. For all other cycles, I got some additional super-strong anti-sickness medicine so talk to your oncologist about the vomiting and they will give you something strong to take next time as well as everything else. I didn't vomit again after that, but I did have nausea for about 7 days on EC - it wasn't too bad though. If you're feeling really nauseous then you should probably call your BCN in case there's more they can do for you this cycle. You shouldn't be vomiting these days with all the anti-sickness they give you so if you're one of the unlucky 10% that still do, like me, then tell them.

I am mid-40s, found EC-T quite tough but continued working all the way through it and was glad I had chemo. Your life will just be about your 3 week cycles for the duration but then suddenly you're through it and recovering.

Good luck, you can do this.

Thank you for the reply. I phoned the team this morning and they arecsorting me out. I will hold onto this and hopefully also feel that it was the right choice to get chemo
