Herceptin halted!!

Hi everyone, Does anyone have any experience of Herceptin being stopped? I was due to have 18 injections and after 12 I was sent for a hear scan which showed a deterioration in my heart function of 3% from the scan previously which was 3 months past. I was due to have No 13 last wed, a Dr from the Hospital rang me the day before and said they wouldn’t be doing it due to this. She is sending me for another scan in 2 weeks to see if has improved at all for them to start Herceptin again. What happens if I can’t have the remaining 6 injections and does anyone know the repercussions of not having all 18? Just looking for some advice. Many thanks

I'm on herceptin number 5 of 18 and I'm due a ECG my first one was 14 weeks ago I'm so sorry your injections have stopped I hope you manage to have the other 6 sorry I can't give you any information about yours being stopped I just wanted to reply as I see no-one has yet regards Belinda x

My oncologist told me that there is new evidence to suggest that 6 months of Herceptin is as effective as a year. Read up on the Persephone trial.

Krysiatennis. Many thanks for your reply. Yes I had heard something about that too. I have to meet with the Oncologist on 20th, so I wonder if they will mention that. I will read up on the trial in the meantime

Hi mitteny

as I have a small heart murmur my oncologist would only give me 6 injections , I literally begged for at least another 3 but she refused - she said “ no use me citing your cancer if you spend the rest of your life in bed with heart failure! “

shr also quoted other trials

Ive read of others on this site getting reduced amounts and also others with damaged hearts . I phoned the helpline - either MacMilland or Breast cancer care . They were very helpful at helping me accept my oncologists decision.

im doing well , just waiting results from 3 yr mammogram.
