AC & Docetaxel chemo

Hello, has anyone here had, or is having ,AC & Docetaxel chemo? I have Grade 3 IDC and following a lumpectomy the margins were not clear plus cancer was found in one lymph node. I was advised that I would need chemo, then further surgery (re-excision/axillary clearance) then radiotherapy, then hormone therapy. I have now spoken with the oncologist and they advised that the chemo would be given as an adjuvant - to prevent the cancer recurring - rather than a neo-adjuvant to shrink the cancer prior to further surgery. I would be having 4 cycles of AC followed by 4 cycles of Docetaxel and I'm assuming that this will be quite gruelling as I have been signed off work for 6 months despite being able to work from home. I know that side effects may vary but just wondered if anyone else who is on this combination of chemo could share their experience. Thanks x

I had the cool cap and it didn't work at all.  It does give pain directly after, well it did with me, massive headache and my whole jaw ached.  I dropped it for the the second session and just the same amount came out.

  • I had Docetaxel along with Carboplatin and honestly it was completely manageable. I worked throughout all 5 months of chemo and literally only needed a few hours off each cycle.   I think it's a very personalized experience, but have a look at my blog (One Life Live It) to see how I have been managing.  Good luck x

Hi LalaLour, I imagine that diagnosis was quite daunting when you got it a few months ago and you will be now well inot your treatmenet. You will have got a handle on what is going on and will be feeling more in control. I had 3 cycles of EC than 3 cylcles of docetaxel. I don't want to scare you at all but the three ec#s were like a walk in the park, compared to the docetaxel. Bare that in mind. The side effects from docetaxel can be quite extreme in some people. I also had grade 3 idc and grade 3 dcis and also needed further surgery to re excise margins. Ive now got through all my chemo, my radio and have started my hormone therapy.  Don't worrygirl, you can get through this xxx
