Hello,

I have a big decision to make by 25 June whether I go ahead with chemo or not following surgery to remove a triple negative breast cancer.

If I do go ahead with the chemo I don't want to have a picc line inserted.

Wanting to hear from anyone who is currently having chemo without using a picc line. Were you put under pressure to have a picc line inserted?

Any help would be gratefully received

Thank you Slight smile

    1. Hi, I had 6 cycles of chemotherapy, was never asked if I wanted a line, so a cannula each time. I had quite thin veins so had to have my hand on a heat pad all the time. This was very helpful, & it can depend on the nurse too.

  • Hi. I had half and half. 3 sessions through my veins and 3 through a groshong line which is tunnelled under my skin from my collar bone to my chest bone. I wouldn't hesitate to get the line done again. Wished I had had it from the start. The flushing takes 5 mins. You can get clots and infections through your veins without any line. Prior to getting my line fitted I got an infection anyway so I wouldnt worry too much. You will be well.looked after x

    Hi BronteMags,

Im about to have round five and I don’t have a picc line. They’ve been keen to give me one as my veins are a bit tricky sometimes but I just can’t handle the thought of it and have managed so far.

My left hand is sore now so using my right, but I haven’t had surgery yet so I have both hands to use. If you’ve already had surgery they will likely only use the side you haven’t had surgery on.

    Its totally your choice though.

    Good luck!
