Hi all started Anastrole a year ago,but Cancer nurse decided to change me to Exmestane as my Osteoarthritis got worse in my knees. Took me 3 mths to get used to anastrole but was happy enough, nurse reckoned tablets were making my knees worse as I complained of the pain, I got steroid injections 2 weeks ago in my knees and was doing ok. I was withdrawing from Anastrole at this stage. 2 weeks on Exmestane and I can hardly walk have developed Carpal tunnel in my hands and now my left leg feels numb. Is this just temporary ? Will things get better as I take Ememstane do you think? Am so depressed now and I was doing so good. Any advice appreciated thanks
Hi Val62
I can't answer your question as to whether things would get better as you continue taking Exemestane, but here's a link to more information about the side effects of both Anastrozole and Exemestane.
It says that the Exemestane can also have the effect of thinning of bones. I've heard ladies who suffered effects of Letrozole and Anastrozole making their life unbearable being switched to Exemestane and had got on better with it, but never the way around that you're feeling worse on the Exemestane than the Anastrozole.
I would suggest that you go back to your nurse and see what the extra benefit is of being on it for your knees vs the bad side effects you are currently experiencing and discuss these side effects with her as to whether it's better to switch back for your mental health as well as physical health.
Best wishes, Lesley
Thanks so much for your reply lesliehelen have appointment tomorrow with my doctor as have headaches now too.
What brand are you on? On another forum a bunk net of woman had issues with brands other than Aromasin (the original) so i requested these from Boots I was switched after letrozole gave me a retinal detachment followed by an ulcer in my other eye. Exemestane gave me insomnia, high blood pressure, pains in my hands and headaches, so am on letrozole every other day now, which isn't great but less bad.
Londonmumof2 Aromasin 25mgs , hoping doc will put me back on anastrole. Thank you for the reply x
