Breast reduction in good breast

Hi I am looking for some experiences, I had a therapeutic mammoplasty last year, this has left me with very lopsided boobs. My consultant has offered to do a reduction on the good side to get a matching pair. I am just scared to go through the whole operation/recovery again. I was hoping for some people’s experiences of this to help me make my decision. One part of me says yes do it, the other says why!

Thank you

  • Hi , I had a reduction and lift on my second breast to make them match and I am glad I did.  It was easier for me though as it was done at the same time.  I'm really happy with the outcome and happy I got it done, having a boob lift was the silver lining in all this for me.

So it depends on whether you think having non matching boobs will bother you or not.  I didn't find recovery from the lumpectomy or the breast reduction difficult what was painful was recovery from having some lymph nodes removed in my armpit (not sure if you had this) but that won't be the case for you for this surgery.

I assume there is no rush to decide so if you are not sure then wait until you are.

Hope you reach a decision you are happy with x

  • Thank you for your reply, I wish I could have had it when I had the operation last year, but was not an option.

I agree the lymph node was the most painful, and no won’t have that this time.

giving myself time to think about it, no rush as you say other than if I leave it too long I will bottle it. The Tamoxifen is not making me feel great either., very fatigued. X

  • I am undecided too. Had right side masectomy 15 months ago and have follow up appointment next week.

Got used to having one big boob and one flat boob but it would be nice to have a reduction.

  • Hopefully when you have your appointment next week it may give you more information and help you decide what to do.

it is a big decision that only we can make and we are all unique in mind and body

good luck with whatever you decide x

  • one positive in my opinion in having the surgery to the other side later is that it gives your breast  that was operated on first time to recover and settle down to it's final size making it I think easier to match the second one to it at a later date.

My surgery was mid Jan this year and I think they overeducated me on the good side.  I don't mind at all but waiting till one side settles before operating on the other side does seem to have a silver lining.

Discuss the side effects of tamoxifen with your oncologist and maybe try switching brands as I have read stories on here where ladies find that some brands give them side effects and others don't.

  • Hi I had therapeutic mammoplasty and sentinel lymph node biopsy and right breast reduction lift and tuck done two weeks ago same day and the diff already I am feeling is amazing now sore from the lymph nodes etc but getting there . I was big breasted so and age 35 so he gave me that choice to make them the same . Northern Ireland hospital. The right breast were no cancer was has healed and not one bit sore now at all hopefully this helps you xx

  • I will definitely try another brand of Tamoxifen to see if it helps at all.

if you had radiotherapy that can make it shrink a bit, so hopefully you will have a matching pair in time.

    take care

  • Thank you Neevy35, good to hear you are healing well, yes the sentinel nodes I remember being quite sore, but does pass, just keep doing the arm exercises, they do really help.

    take care

  • Yes they definitely help lots x
