Hello everyone,
I'm Steph from the Community team, I hope you don't mind me posting here.
We've been asked to create a new thread for radiotherapy discussions this April, as the existing threads were getting a little long.
Please do let us know if you have any other threads you think would be useful to link here.
I skipped chemo, but have had to wait 12 weeks for radiotherapy since Surgery because of delay in results and appointments. So I just want to get started to be honest. Fortunately I’m on full pay so have gone on sick leave not for 4 weeks. I hope you manage to rest in between treatments.
I've been working throughout treatment - chemo, surgery and now working virtually full time for the next 2 weeks of rads - I asked for afternoon appointments so I could fit work in. I'm self-employed so not much choice but it's been fine.
Hi Cyprusfav I started last Tuesday, so I actually go over 4 weeks rather than 3 (I am having 15 days treatment), with just one day in the final week. The radiographers don't seem to think this is unusual.
I have been given Flamigel cream by the clinic and told to use it 2 or 3 times a day. The only instruction about timing was to not apply it immediately before or after treatment - and she confirmed that she did mean immediately. I have my treatments in the morning and I use it after my morning shower, when I get back from the clinic late morning/early afternoon and at bedtime. so far, so good, but only one-third of the way through! I would think with your afternoon appointments you would be ok using your cream in the morning and evening but I the radiographer will be able to advise at your first treatment. Good luck x
How many sessions are you having curly sue? Tamoxifen is a real joy isn’t it. My side effects seem to have settled a little now. Thank goodness
Hi patsyp2. Thanks for that. The problem is my hospital don’t advise using any cream at all until all treatment is finished. It’s incredible how different trusts can give such varying advice. I will just have to see how I go I guess! But have a large supply of aveeno ready to use
Had first appointment today to discuss radiotherapy. I have been told I will have treatment over a week rather than 3. Feeling a bit daunted by all the potential side effects. Apparently I will get a date for a planning session within the next week. Feel a bit low about it today. Never posted here before so I don’t know if I’m doing this right!
Hello everyone.
I've just had my first week, 3 more weeks to go, having 15 sessions on whole breast and 5 sessions boost. I'm having treatment on my left breast, have found the breath-holding a lot more difficult than I was expecting to. Hard to get it consistent every time! Has any one got any tips?
Thankfully don't have too far to travel to hospital, but it is tiring nonetheless.
I'm using Aveeno skin relief (blue tube/bottle), have been using it for my dry skin and eczema for years, it's a good'un!
Good luck to everyone!

CyprusfavI had my first one today and the radiologist said the cream doesn't stop any skin reactions, you will either get one or not, but it just helps moisturise the area. If you get a reaction I am sure you can speak to them about it and see what they recommend then. Fingers crossed you're fine!
