This question pertains to the Scottish NHS, but I assume that the protocol would be similar throughout the country, and possibly also be governed by NICE guidelines.
We have looked at the NICE guidelines and cannot find any specific details regarding the specific elapsed time period.
Should the post-treatment mammogram take place 12 months?
a. after date of actual diagnosis?
b. after surgery?
c. after radiotherapy post-surgery?
Thanks
Dedalus
I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy in December after being diagnosed with breast cancer after a mammogram in November. This was followed by radiotherapy in February. I was told my my oncologist only last week that I can expect a mammogram next November, so 12 months after diagnosis. I’m in England. Hope this helps and good luck x
Thanks, Jigsawgirl.
There doesn't seem to be a firm rule.
I believe it would be better to have it sooner rather than later. American studies indicate that 6 monthly mammograms are much more beneficial in dealing early with any recurrence.
Wishing you the best for November. x
