Hi everyone, I was diagnosed last Tuesday and told I would need a mastectomy. The lump is small 6mm, but I also have calcification which is pre cancer, so they need to remove it as they are 8cms apart. I am 69 and wonder if age makes a difference to the treatment that is offered ?

  • Hi , iam 49 years old and i have 7 mm lump which its cancer and 9 cm calcification around my lump. Up to yesterday I supposed to have lumpectomy on 12 th but because of calculations ( pre cancer) they change my surgery to a mastectomy. Iam just one of them . Best of luck with your surgery please keep updating how it goes. Xxx

    Hi Annna,

I had never heard of calcification before my biopsies. it is bad luck that we have both or it would be a lumpectomy which would be easier to come to terms with. Good luck with your surgery and please let me know how it goes.

    Big hugs x

  • Hi Biewerlady, i guess that its blessing to find out last min to avoid future surgeries. When breast its unstable and very busy with pre cancer cells its big risk to remove only cancer . I choose my surgeon advice to remove all breast . Xxx

Hi Biewerlady.  I am 64 (63 when I had my op).  I have several other illnesses which needed to be taken into account when they decided my treatment options.  Rather than age, I think they concentrate more on your existing health condition.  If you are a relatively healthy person then they will throw everything they need to at it.
