I had a core biopsy of axillary nodes . Keep seeing about sentinel lymph nodes. What’s the difference? Does that mean it has already gone passed The sentinel nodes??
Hi - have you had surgery ? During your lumpectomy/mastectomy the surgeon will remove your sentinel node (s). We all have between 1 and 5 of them. These are the first layer of lymph nodes, and if cancer is found in these it is often recommended that a full axillary clearance is done. My hospital do a biopsy of the sentinel nodes whilst under during the first op and remove the rest of the nodes if there is cancer present. Even if cancer is found in the lymph nodes it doesn’t mean it has spread , but you are more likely to be recommended to have chemo.
cheers

Hi jo, no I had a core biopsy and axillary biopsy done on Thursday. Lump that shows calcifications and lymph nodes looked swollen so they took both. Was told it looked very suspicious and basically breast cancer and to bring someone with me for results. I’m going out of my mind with worry thinking have I got a cough ( has it spread to lungs) why is my arm aching. Feel so sick with worry. Right on top of Christmas and with covid not an ideal time . Also had lump for 6 months before getting looked at so now think that it all over .
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
