Hi All,
Has anyone had a SIEA flap, if so where in the country.
Yesterday I was given the devastating news that they will not do the DIEP in my local hospital as I have ongoing back problems and they fear it ‘ might’ affect my core strength and thus the stability of my back. They have referred me to Bristol for a second opinion.
Please help.
Susie
Hi Susie,
I just had to look this up and the Cancer UK site I used looks as if it’s an excellent choice for you, as it won’t worry your abdominal muscles at all.
A good idea for a second opinion (take a notebook with questions and make them allow you time to write down the answers!) but it looks as if it’s a great alternative to what’s regarded as the Rolls Royce of reconstruction, the DIEP.

Hi @Moomy
Thanks for getting back to me. Feeling quite desperate this morning.
It wasn’t suggested at my appointment yesterday but I found it this morning doing more research, not even sure it’s done in Bristol. Do you think I should mention it to the BCN and see what she thinks, I’ve seen 3 different ones at the appointments so far.

I think talking it over with a BCN will help you lots, Susie, a very good idea!
make a list of all you want to know and talk it through, I expect you’ve a phone number contact?
I gather the op also involves a fair amount of blood vessel suturing as the DIEP does.
