Hi,
I’m new to this page. I had my first routine mammogram at the beginning of October aged 52. My Mum sadly passed away in 2015 with breast cancer and secondary brain cancer. I was called back for a second assessment. I wasn’t concerned at the time. I had more mammograms on my right breast, an ultrasound then a biopsy. The doctor confirmed then and there it wasn’t good news. I saw breast cancer nurse who explained I had a very small 8mm lump. She talked about a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. I was stunned! It felt very surreal. I told my close family which was awful as everyone compares it to my Mum. A fortnight later I was back again at breast clinic. Another doctor explained I would need a vacuum biopsy that day as they hadn’t taken enough tissue. It was also explained they wanted to check before the lumpectomy if I would need any lymph nodes removed if cancer was invasive. I have waited another 2 weeks and received telephone call today explaining not to attend appointment tomorrow as my results have been sent to Professor Pinder in London for a second opinion as some abnormal cells. I now have to wait again.
I guess my question is...is this normal? Has it happened to anyone else?
Thank you. Nx
I assume they are querying type of BC, I think I've seen on here some people having two types of BC , It's such a difficult time waiting, might be worth using the ask a nurse on this site. Hopefully this link works a Ask a Nurse.
