Hi,
Has anyone who is on Tamoxifen had irregular bleeding? I have been bleeding for the last 9 days and have a hospital appointment on Friday where they will do an internal examaniation and biopsy. I am interested to hear from anyone who has had this and to learn what the outcome was. I am terrified it is endometrial cancer......
Thanks you!
T
Hi
How did you get on at hospital today?
It's natural to assume the worst when you have had cancer but often it can be non-cancer related. I haven't had this experience so can't help with your question but by replying to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussions list where it'll be hopefully seen by someone who can help you further.

Hi latchbrook,
Thanks for responding in order to get my question bumped up, that is very sweet of you. It is terrible isnt it going through life convinced that anything that we have wrong with us is automatically cancer. I presume that this is a fear that will never go away, and some of us can manage it better than others.
They have scheduled a hysteroscopy on Tuesday when they will do the biopsy, but the doctor said to me that I shouldnt be concerned and that in the worst case scenario of having endometrial cancer they would have caught it extremely early.
xx
That all sounds very promising from your doctor
I think you're right that the worry will never entirely go away but we just have to learn to trust our bodies again. An ache or pain that we wouldn't have thought twice about pre-cancer becomes a worry that the cancer is back now.
Do come back and let me know how your hysteroscopy goes

Hi , I had been taking Tamoxifen for almost a year when suddenly I had a really bad bleed. My periods had stopped during Chemo and I assumed this was just my periods returning! However like you it needed to be checked out. Ultrasound should a thickening of the womb lining, which can be a side effect of Tamoxifen. They also spotted some polyps. So I was given a hysteroscopy to check things out. While doing this they scraped away the lining of my womb and removed the polyps. All came back fine. It was just the return of my periods which apparently can happen with 'younger' patients. I was 39 at the time and endured the worse bleed I had ever had, just in time to mark my 40th Birthday.....I'll never forget that birthday! The day i went to the chemist for my Tenna Lady Pads
Thankfully things calmed down after this and eventually I was put on Zoladex implants to shut down my ovaries!
You are correct in the fact that for a while every little twinge will make you think the Cancer is back. Then just as you stop thinking like that you'll find out that the GP will always be thinking that too and whenever you go to the GP with an unusual issue, they will always rule out Cancer first, then think of the minor issues that you probably have!!
You get used to it eventually, and at least you know they are keeping a close eye on you.
Hope things work out well for you. Best wishes. Sal xx
Hi London Lass,
Thanks for sharing and gosh you were young and what a way to mark your 40th you poor thing.
I was 45 when I got put on Tamoxifen and chemo threw me into the menopause. The good news is I have stopped bleeding which is good and Im presuming that they will do the same to me in terms of scraping things tomorrow when I have the hysteroscopy.
I really like what you have said about the GP always also thinkiing that it might be cancer, that is a real comfort as that means they have totally got your back.
Keep well.
Anella
