Hi all. I am right at the beginning of my treatment journey awaiting a treatment plan once I get my mri results (which I had done yesterday). I am concerned about the impact the covid changes are making in relation to hospitals and what that means for us?

Who was around receiving treatment during the last wave? Do you have any pearls of wisdom?

Feeling a bit wobbly.

Thanks Debs

    Hi Debs,

I had chemo,op ,radiotherapy and immunotherapy all in lock down,The hospitals are very well set out and staff will put you at ease.

Feeling wobbly is only to be expected, once you have a plan it will be a whirlwind of appointments, covid safe. You'll be amazed how quickly time passes.

      Stay safe,

          Yvie

    Thanks Yvie

  • Hi as Yvie says feeling wobbly is perfectly normal when you actually get your plan and then start treatment you feel so much better . My story is on profile just click my name to read if you want .

I finished chemo last Dec . The commenced herceptin three weekly x 18 and six monthly infusion for three years so....... was just getting back to near normal when I was shielded in March .

First time I had treatment in lockdown I was very nervous of virus but the hospitals were well set up even better now .

In my unit it has gone from being quite busy in waiting room and in unit to me being only patient in most of time . On occasion someone may be getting chemo at other end of room but they are already in unit when I arrive ,

i make sure I wear loose easy washed clothing and strip and wash these on arriving home .Then have showers make sure someone with you in case you a bit wobbly .

Our hospital advised using hot water and soap before entering unit ,used to have to use sink in loo . Now they have installed big trough sinks in corridors for patients and staff to use .

I think you'll find your unit will be very well set up as they always have had to be wary of infections .

best of luck with your plan

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

Some great support Two hearts  I’ve been having a panic too, just finished chemo and surgery in 5 weeks.  I was really worried that my surgery would be delayed but you’ve put me at ease too! Kissing heart

  • Hello Birdy71

Yes, you will get your treatment. I even had my surgery at a private hospital. NHS are fantastic.

  • Hi Debs

I had my mastectomy on 7th April 2020, right at the peak of the pandemic. I got amazing treatment. Felt so safe and the nurses and consultant were so caring and kind.

Hope your treatment goes well and wishing you all the best.

  • HI and  , I was diagnosed just as the first lockdown came in. Had my pre operation tests and insertion of wire during april and my operation in a private hospital at the end of that month. Resultsof the operation and arrangements were made by telephone for Radiotherapy. Attended for CT scan  and mark up for RT and then the following week for the treatment -I only had  5  Fast Forward which is now becoming the standard I understand. Each time the staff were brilliant and covid precautions were taken including hand sanitising and temperature measurement. The staff all wore masks and so did I except for the actual  radiotherapy. You will be safe and the staff all go the extra mile to help and reassure you . Wishing you both well on your journey -sending hugs.
