Hi Chemo and radio therapy done!
Now awaiting results of a blood test to see if Im post menopausal if so I will need treatment for my bones.
anyone have any experience of this?
Hi Kimbo56
I was def post menapausal ( 70yr ) so bisphosphonate infusions ..first one last November then May takes about .15 minutes .
Minimal SE a bit fluey for couple days .
Blood test initially to check calcium /vit D levels I was prescribed two adcal chew tablets per day ..calcium levels are checked prior to infusions .
My adcal reduced to one per day going forward .
Infusions are for three year but can be up to five . Prior to your infusion treatments start you will need a dental check ( need to clear after chemo about two month ) After that I was told six week window either side of infusion for any dental work .
All of the above was my plan but we all different so yours may differ in some way .
congrats on getting chemo and rads over with
Thanks for replying Margaret
ive had my dental checks, I’m 57 so I’m expecting to have the treatment!
thank you for the advise xx
I'm pre-menopausal but I'll be having the bisphosphonate infusions because I'm going onto Goserelin and Exemestane which will make me post-menopausal. I'll know more the week after next.
NorthernerI'm glad to hear it's so quick!
Hi Kimbo56
No-one has any idea where I am menopausally...!!
'We" think that when diagnosed (July 2019) I was perimenopausal. Anyway I am also on the bisphos's for 7 lots over 3 1/2 yrs, like Margaret along with (yummy - I lie, they have an 'interesting' taste despite being called fruity or whatever) calcium tablets, 2 a day for me (maybe as am also osteopenic?).
Apparently I only get a blood test re where I am with the big M 2 years after taking zolodex (dries up ovaries as am ER+).
I'm also told that after the bisphos's are complete then I get a bone density scan to the state of my poor bones.
I don't recall having any side effects after the first one but have had very few side effects throughout chemo & rads so maybe just lucky in that way?
Worth mentioning, and you may know already, but as well as strengthening the bones this infusion also reduces the risk of the cancer spreading to the bones...good to know I think.
