Hi I was diagnosed with DCIS a few weeks ago. After a biopsy they told me I had invasive cancer in my lymph nodes. I had a mastectomy & reconstruction on Saturday and feel really sick and feverish. Does anyone know if this is normal?

I need to go through 6 months of chemo followed by radio therapy. Can someone tell me if the pain is worse after the mastectomy or after chemo.

I’m a single mum and really finding it hard to cope.

  • Hi, and so sorry you’re here....

it’s still early days post-op and the anaesthetic drugs do take quite a while (a couple of weeks) to completely leave your system. Do check your temperature, if it’s high then call in to the hospital, they’d much rather you do that sooner rather than later, don’t forget they are a 24/7 service (even if it may take a while!) Ginger in any form often helps nausea, if you still feel bad tomorrow it might be worth giving your team a call to see if there’s anything they can sort for you.
I haven’t had chemo so can’t help with the query, but you’ve had a major op and come through, take care....

  • If you are awake and worrying at any hour of day or night, then do have a look (and maybe post too) at the ‘AWAKE...’ thread on here, it’s very long now but has serious as well as funny stuff. You need to be slightly loopy, users get called fruit loops! But it does help...

    hope you’re feeling better today?

Thank you again your your messages of support. Feeling much better today. Doctors stopped the antibiotics they gave me and prescribed a different anti-sickness medication. X

  • I’m so glad they changed antinausea meds and you’re feeling better!
Do keep posting, no questions too daft!
