How  long do I have to wait to excercise after radiotherapy ?

My surgery was 3 months ago

What am I able  to do?

  • Hi,  I just kept going with the exercises I was given after my op, I didn’t stop throughout radiotherapy.

  • Hi I have the physio for my shoulders

    And I'm walking a bit

But was thinking more about the rest of my body

    Maybe zumba or the gym

Will that be too much  yet?

  • Oh sorry, I misunderstood you. I’ve just been walking as shoulders are too painful to do much else. If it was me personally I would do what I felt I was capable of doing.

    Have you asked your BCN?

  • No I haven't

    But I will

I dont feel like excercise..but I feel I should do some thing as I'm turning into an 80 yr old over night.

I'm stiff. My joints ache. Im weak.

Plus I'm itchy as hell from radiotherapy.

Im fed up.. I need to do some thing

  • Hi

Had a look back at my diary (good idea to do so you can look back & see how far you've come on I find) and 3 months post mx/ANC (and rads) I was able to walk a couple of hours, cycle again for a couple of hours and also did online barre classes (couldn't do all stuff to begin with).  Had the gyms been open I reckon I could have done CV there, only just reincorporated weights (low ones!) into schedule in last month and have yet to try the rowing machine but everything else fine and dandy 6 months post ANC, 7 months post mx and 4 months post rads.

Have a look at my profile for a thrilling read re my cancer.

I did manage to exercise throughout treatments generally (had to stop for surgeries) and really feel it helps manage those pesky side effects...go for it!  But listen to your body (not that I did that much!).

    Have fun

    Sam
