Hi I’m not new to this group as I had TNBC in 2021 and finished treatment in November of that year after lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

since then I’ve had other diagnoses including severe displasia on my tongue that I have quarterly checkups for and ulcerative colitis that also needs treatment such as iron infusion and biologic infusions every 8 weeks.

Ive always been allowed to attend appts and not been asked to make the time up - my verbal understanding with my previous manager was that I didn’t have to make the time up. I’ve never had this in writing and all the previous managers have now left the company. Ie had a lot of medical appts during the past month including some under the 2 week pathway for suspected stomach cancer which fortunately came back negative. I’ve now been told that going forward I’ll need to make up any time taken for all medical appts. I’ve looked at the DDA but I can’t find anything that says you do or don’t have to make the time up or if it’s at the discretion of the employer? Has anyone had an issue like this?
I also have a verbal agreement that I am permanently WFH due to medical issues and I’m wondering if I should now ask for confirmation in writing? Thanks for reading sorry for the long post Slight smile

  • Hi

Where I used to work it was part of the employment contract that staff were allowed time off for medical appointments. There was a spinout created where staff were offered a slightly higher pay in return for not having paid time off for appointments.

What might be helpful to look at though is the subject of reasonable adjustments, it can be helpful to get some support in going throuh this. You might have some degree of sucess linking to custom and practice in terms of impact on your employment contract.

    Hope that helps
