Hi again all,
Happy New Year!!
Hoping to find out experience of what everyone has been prescribed or reccomended for increased bone thinning when treating your cancer. This worries me a great deal as I have another medical.condition that means the mechanism for my body turning sunlight into optimum D3 is broken.. I take 800 iu fultium for this but given i am in medical menopause now post total hysterectomy and now my cancer diagnosis is hormone positive has meant I've needed to come off my hrt which in addition to helping with peri/ menopause also was prescribed to prevent bone loss in menopause.
Suggestions for menopause symptoms now??
Hi Bluenoser
Happy new year to you too!
My details are in my profile (click on my username), I’m sure I’m older than you (66 now, 59 when diagnosed) but am happy to share what I’ve been taking for the past 7 years while I’ve been on Anastrozole, in case it’s of some help.
I had a dexa scan to check my bone density during first month on Anastrozole. It showed existing osteopenia so I started taking Osteocare calcium and vitamin D supplements. The GP would have prescribed Adcal, but when I showed her the supplements I was already taking she checked with the practice pharmacist who said they were fine. I preferred them as they had some other stuff like magnesium as well. I like the Osteocare brand as have used stuff from them before. But now, apart from the calcium/ Vit D supplements I, I haven’t taken anything else as would be worried about affecting the efficacy of the Anastrozole.
Hope that’s of some help! I’m sure others will pop in and hopefully some younger folks as may be in a more similar situation. Love and hugs, HFxx
Hi there
I am the mother of a daughter who has metastatic breast cancer and is about to start endocrine therapy putting her into abrupt menopause; she did not thrive well on a trial of tamoxifen. I am concerned for her so I do understand your concerns around HRT no longer being available to you. My heart goes out to you snd any others o here who are in yhe same predicament.
I understand that most hospitals have menopause clinics do you could ask to be referred to one. It is also worth considering a site I have found called https://menopauseandcancer.org/podcast/
There is lots of information and conversation on here you may find useful.
I hope this helps. Keep on keeping on.
Louise
