Diagnosis on Wednesday - sleep is eluding me..

Following a phone call on Wednesday I know I need to wait two weeks until my first consultant appointment.  All I know is it will be removed.

I teach 5 year olds.  I got through Thursday.  But did have to find an empty space at lunchtime to cry for 10 minutes.  It’s when I stop that the emotion seems to come… sleep is the main issue at the moment.  I sleep straight away but wake after two hours.  It then takes me about 2 hours to go back to sleep- then it’s time to get up!  Any tips for better sleep would be appreciated.  I’m worried that I’m going to struggle to teach if I don’t get sleep sorted.. Thank you

  • hi, I’m quite new here but I saw your post and it resonated with me, I’m only young (38… still 21 though!!) and found a lump in May, fast forward a few months and I am back to restless nights (only because my diagnosis is bad).

I must say, the waiting is the most anxious part. All the thoughts and what ifs, used to keep me up for hours through the night and couldn’t function at all in the day. The cloud that follows you around wherever you go, hours stand still, days are long. I can only hope you get some positive results and that you can walk away from this unscathed.

I actually started taking strong CBD oil under my tongue (from Hempwell they are properly certified not a back street thing!) also I’m not into stuff like that, I’ve always been squeaky clean and healthy, it just helps to take the anxiety and stress before bed and you sleep so deep with no waking up. Just to make you aware you’re not high doing this, this is not THC that is in weed that makes you feel high (I’ve had to find all this out!).
You obviously can’t take it before operations etc but for the period leading up to diagnosis and things you’re fine.

Also found a lot of meditation just before bed (a quick 5 minute YouTube while you’re lay down in bed) is amazing to help focus your breathing and relax your mind. I know it’s so boring and you’d rather just shut your eyes and try and sleep but it really is so helpful and quickly becomes routine.

Yoga classes in the evenings if that’s something you have time for, I’ve started going twice a week now since my diagnosis has gone from bad to worse, helps channel all the negative thoughts and relieve some energy from your system.

good luck, there’s a huge support network on here depending on your diagnosis… we’re not alone Slight smile

  • Hi, I used some mindfulness techniques, specifically an app called Headspace, to help me to get to sleep and I found that helped a lot of the time. Best wishes

  • Thank you.  Someone else mentioned that so I will give it a try.
