Good afternoon all,
I have invasive breast cancer HER2 and have been undergoing treatment for 5 years now. I loved my job, however, I had a new line manager last June and everything has become very unpleasant because she is asking me to do things that I am not happy with and it is making me so unhappy when I am working so I have been sighed off work due to work related stress.
I am considering retiring due to ill health because of these issues, however, my private pension is not as much as I thought it would be and I cannot get the state pension for another 9 years. I live alone and am still paying off my mortgage which is the reason things would be so tight.
i have been told there are two types, tier 1 or tier 2, but I am not able to find out which one I would be able to get until I apply. Has anyone retired early due to ill health and advise me on which tier they received so I can get a better underStanding of what I can expect. Could you also advise what benefits your were also able to get under these circumstances.
I do not want to end up in financial hardship so your help and guidance would be much appreciated.
Hi Feb2020, I have not been given a prognosis and I haven't asked about it. Have you had a prognosis? I asked my doctor for a SR1 form which is to say they expect you to die in a year. She has completed this for me and I have sent this to work. If you claim any benefit a SR1 form means you automatically get the higher rate of any benefit you claim. I expect I will live longer than a year but this form just makes things easier. I dont know if that makes sense. Cancer is so unpredictable who can say what tomorrow will bring. I am trying to be practical about things. Sometimes it is hard to do this. I am 59 and first had breast cancer twelve years ago. I really admire you for still working with all that you are going through. Take care and I will let you know how my application goes. I think I got the tiers mixed up 1 is ill health and 2 is serious ill health (I think). Anyway I am rambling now.
